Memorable Thanksgiving dinner

On a beautiful fall evening on Saturday, November 16, many friends and neighbors gathered at the Raindrop Turkish House of Austin to  share meal around one table.  The most senior guest cut the turkey and the feast began. While everyone was enjoying their delicious food, honorable guest Rev. Ken White , Associate Pastor at United Christian Church, shared his Thanksgiving memories with an attentive audience.  He also recounted the story of how Thanksgiving became a national holiday.  Following his speech, the world-renowned guitarist Celil Refik Kaya played a unique instrument called rebap which is over one thousand year old Turkish instrument and grandfather of violin, whose warm sound and melodies complemented the friendly atmosphere in the room.

Austin Hosts Thousands at State’s Largest Gathering for Women

Raindrop Women Association (RAWA) opened a colorful booth and performed Turkish art for 5,000 attendees at the 14th annual Texas Conference for Women.TAWA Board member Kuaybe Basturk told that, “Such an amazing experience! Our booth’s favorite parts were water marbeling (Art of Ebru) corner and traditional ornament table. Both of them were attractive!” Another TAWA Board member Suzan Saltik mentioned their acivities and add that, “We started to join this wonderful event last year. And hope to return every year!”

Early Thanksgiving Dinner at Turkish American Community Center in Houston

IMG 0736Raindrop Foundation, Glenshire Community Association and Dialogue Institute Southwest organized Early Thanksgiving Dinner as being a part of citizenship month activities in Houston on Thursday November 21, 2013.The program started with welcoming remarks by the president of Raindrop Foundation, and followed by remarks from the president of Glenshire Community Association David Hughy. Jeremy Brown, from Texas State Senator Rodney Ellis’ office, presented certificate of recognition to Raindrop Foundation, Glenshire Community Association and Dialogue Institute of Southwest. Students from Indo-American, Chinese, and Turkish American Community shared their experience in America.
