Raindrop Turkishhouse at College Station Visited KAGS TV

KAGS_visit2On behalf of Turkish community in Bryan and College Station, Raindrop Turkish House volunteers visited KAGS TV. KAGS TV is the newest station in our community. They met with anchor Matthew LeBlanc and talked about the contributions of Raindrop Turkish House to Bryan/College Station area. Mr. Blanc  talked about the vision of KAGS TV. The group toured the studio.

Raindrop Turkishhouse observed the Black History Month


In order to observe Black History Month, volunteers from Raindrop Turkish House participated  a seminar titled “Racial Discrimination: Have times really changed?” at Texas A&M. Volunteer get a chance to receive  an education on race,  and learnt the language on how to talk about racism and  learnt how society  formulate their opinions on racial discrimination.

Inside Magazine Editor , Angelique Gammon visited Raindrop Turkish House

InsideEditorVisit12The editor of Brazos Valley Inside Magazine, Angelique Gammon, visited Raindrop Turkish House on March 7th.  During the visit,  she browsed around of our cultural center and get informed by our volunteers about our activities for Bryan/College Station and Turkish community. She was very interested about the mission of Raindrop House and its activities including educational, cultural, grass root, and outreach activities.

6th Annual Turkish Language Olympiad


6th Annual Turkish Language Olympiad America Southwest Finals was held on February 18th at Hobby Center Sarofim Hall in Houston downtown. In the finals, competitor received their awards. Competitors of Raindrop Turkish House at Bryan / College Station participated both Turkish language exam and Turkish cuisine competition. Virginia Komar, Turkish Cuisine competitor, won the 5th place prize, and got her award in the award ceremony. This year competitors for Turkish Cuisine prepared two unique dishes, Kisir and Sekerpare.

Raindrop visited Allen Academy

AllenAcademy_visitLouis and Barbara Ferreira will be leading a group of 23 Allen students to Turkey and Greece in March. Ahead of that trip, Dr. Ferreira’s World Geography and World History classes have begun to discuss the region.To launch the unit on Turkey and the Ottoman Empire, a volunteer from the Raindrop Turkish House, visited both classes to talk about his homeland. Mr. Kilic showed pictures of his city in Turkey, explained the lay of the land, introduced demographic facts and discussed political, economic, cultural and educational practices. Dr. Ferreira plans to bring in regional experts on each new part of the world his classes study to give the students a local perspective. “The students gave it two thumbs up, commenting on the detail of [Mr.Kilic] presentation. They are now even more excited about going to Turkey next month,” Dr. Ferreira said after the talk. He plans to return the favor by speaking to the Turkish Association at A&M later this spring. The trip is part of an annual tour Allen students and their parents take to Europe and the Mid-East.
