|RAWA Panel Discussion and Networking Event- Human Trafficking|
Raindrop Women’s Association has partnered with UNICEF USA and United Against Human Trafficking to hold a panel discussion on May 12th. It was about Human trafficking in Houston and beyond. The professionals who work local and international to heal this problem have discussed a broad range of topics.
As the program MC, Pamela Greenwood, Media/Public Relations Director at Harris County Precinct 7, welcomed guests and opened the program. Honorable Teta banks gave an introductory speech for the discussion topic. In her speech, Teta mentioned many facts and aspects of human trafficking. After Filiz Camuz’s (Executive Director of Raindrop Women’s Association) welcome speech, the discussion has started.
Jenna Cooper, Community Education Specialist at United Against Human Trafficking moderate the conversation. Her questions were answered by the panelists. Rep. Senfronia Thompson, Dr. Robert Sanborn, the CEO of Children at Risk, Dr. Rebecca Pfeffer from UH-Downtown, Heidy Kahle from UNICEF USA and Rachel Alvarez from YMCA International have shared their experiences and knowledge.
The need of raising awareness was the most significant outcome of the evening. Caring your neighbors was mentioned as a very important argument in terms of identifying the victims. Understanding and teaching our children about human rights and healthy relationships was a great take away for parents. The importance of pushing legislators and police department to deal with human trafficking is another vital advice for the audience.
